Our Year 9 students on the ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ in ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ March immersion are having a wonderful time in Italy so far. They have spent three days exploring Rome, visiting historical landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Forum, the Spanish Steps and the Vatican Museums.

On their first morning, they met the newly appointed Australian Ambassador to the Holy See, the Honourable Keith Pitt. Following this, the group had the privilege of visiting St Peter’s Basilica and entering through the Holy Door – a symbolic entrance that is only opened during a Jubilee year, which occurs every twenty-five years.

ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ also visited the Basilica of Saint Mary of Minerva, the burial site of St Catherine of ÃØÉ«´«Ã½, and experienced a detailed tour of the Basilica of Saint Sabina, home of the Dominican Order and where St Dominic resided from 1220. A special thank you to Friar Cristobal for sharing his extensive knowledge of Santa Sabina’s architecture, art and Dominican history.

The students will now travel to Tuscany and continue to learn about St Catherine’s life and legacy as they experience Italian culture and cuisine.
