The Place Only I Go

The wind rustles through the street.
A figure walks a solitary path
Of dead grass and dried up leaves,
Leaving behind the aftermath.

A river of forgotten hopes and lost dreams
Trickles down rocks, diverging in separate streams.
Different ways things could’ve gone
That swept away as life went on.

Over the bridge and round the bend,
Down the creek trail and up the cobblestone road.
Where all things stand still and the silence is my friend
I walk the path I always do like some secret code.

This is the spot only I know.
This is the place only I go.
This is where I needn’t fear my foes.
This is where the streams flow.
