Our Year 12 Art students recently visited the 'Melbourne Now' exhibition at The Ian Potter Centre: National Gallery of Victoria. The exhibition showcased local contemporary artists and designers, therefore exposing our students to a wide range of modern ideas and issues. It was an eye opening experience viewing the myriad of art forms and having to apply personal, structural and cultural lenses as a means of understanding. In the group photo, our Year 12s were sitting on multidisciplinary artist, Jan Nelson’s large scale installation, featuring an elevated rug made from hundreds of T-shirts adorned with activist and protest slogans, collected over a number of years before being colour-coded, cut into strips and crocheted into a four-metre circle.
