Reflection by Year 8 Student, Emily S

"The competition was valuable to me as I had the opportunity to connect with people who share similar interests. All the speeches were of high calibre and provided intriguing viewpoints on the competition topic: How can people and technology collaborate to pave the way towards a better world?

In my speech, I emphasised the significance of technology accessibility in shaping a better world. Honing my public speaking skills in front of an audience was beneficial. It was particularly fascinating to listen to the accomplished members of the judging panel share insights about their successful careers. Overall, the speech competition was beneficial as it allowed me to interact with numerous individuals, observe others' speeches, and present my own."

Reflection by Year 11 Student, Sophia V

"It was an incredible opportunity to express our perspectives through a speech about the future of technology and its potential to benefit humanity. This experience provided us with a fantastic chance to connect with like-minded individuals in the realm of public speaking and debating, while also gaining insights into the future of leadership from experts.

We had the honour of presenting to a distinguished panel of leaders, including Member for Hawthorn, John Pesutto; Mayor of the City of Boroondara, Felicity Sinfield; Vice-Chancellor and President of Swinburne University of Technology, Professor Pascale Quester; Founder and Director of Bakers Delight and COBS Bread, Lesley Gillespie; Chief Executive Officer of the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Paul Guerra; and Head of Communications and Community Engagement at Melbourne Airport, Andrew Lund.

A special thank you goes to Mrs Donna Laughlin and Mrs Emily Black for their invaluable facilitation and support throughout this opportunity."
